The word “Sherpa” originated from the Sherpa people of Nepal. Sherpa fabric resembles the wool-lined clothing worn by the tribe.

Paisley (Bandana Print) Is Still A Fall Trend

Paisley, also referred to as bandana print, was extremely popular during the summer months this past year. We saw this print on tons of different styles of shirts, jackets, pants, and even sneakers.

As we transition into the fall and the winter months, we do not want to say goodbye to this paisley print just yet. Paisley is definitely still going to be a popular trend during these upcoming fall and winter seasons.

For many years, we only saw Paisley print really on bandanas that we would wear on our heads, our necks, or tied around arms or legs during themed parties or Halloween. However, this past season this print became so popular that it was hard to find a shirt that didn’t have this pattern!

The History of Paisley

If you’re not familiar with Paisley or, as some call it, bandana print, it is an “ornamental design with curved teardrop shapes.” It was originally introduced in Islamic culture in south Asia. It then spread to the rest of the world.

This design was originally used as the focal design in the headgear of Iranian kings. This design signifies real sovereignty and nobility. This symbolic pattern is often incorporated into Iranian wedding attire in silver and gold threads.

In the mid-18th century during Napoleon's expedition tour to Egypt, he brought a cashmere shawl with this paisley pattern to France as a souvenir; it then spread through Europe and became extremely popular. In Britain, this pattern is represented in Celtic arts. This pattern earned its name because of where it was produced in Paisley, Scotland. There were 6,000 Weavers creating these shawls.

This design is a very high-class piece of clothing to wear. However, during the industrial revolution in Europe, the shawls were then manufactured at extremely fast rates which made them lose their high-class status as they became popular within the middle class.

This print then traveled west and was used on bandanas for cowboys and bikers. It was then adopted by the hippie era and was a signature piece during the rock ‘n’ roll era. It was extremely popular because The Beatles influenced this pattern as well.

A Go-To Guide for Men’s Summer Fashion

The Perfect Beach Day Ensemble

Say you decide to spend the day at the beach surrounded by all of your closest friends and family members. All of your friends are probably going to be wearing the same old bathing suits that they have sported the past couple of summers. You want to show off some cool new swim trunks this summer and we’ve got you covered!

We offer various kinds of swim shorts for men. They come in all different designs for you to choose from. Some of our favorite new swim trunks are the tie-dye patterned pieces. They come in various color options including purple, multicolor, and green tie dye. All three of these swim trunks come in eight and a half inch inseams.

Trunks on the Bottom—Tees on Top

You most likely are not going to be wearing a shirt with these swim trunks while at the beach or the pool, but on your way to and from, we suggest pairing them with a solid-colored t-shirt or tank top.

Our Sand Marble Tee  or our Mint Positive Tie Dye Tee would be two great options to pair these colorful bottoms with. When working with colorful garments, we suggest pairing them with solid colors so that we are able to fully complement the colors. We do not want the look to get too busy or take away from one of the garments because it clashes with the other. Sometimes the beach can become chilly when the clouds pass by and block the sun from shining directly on you. During that time a long sleeve light tee shirt would definitely come in handy.

To finish off this look, we suggest pairing these swim trunks and solid colored top with a pair of solid white or black sneakers. If you are going to the beach rather than the pool, we suggest choosing a pair of slides instead so that the sand does not ruin your sneakers. Don’t forget to finish off this look with a baseball cap or a bucket hat. It is important to protect yourself from the sun! Be sure not to forget to apply your sunscreen throughout the day. A sunburn is not recommended with this outfit.

Graduation Party Attire

Tis’ graduation season. Whether it be a high school graduation or a college graduation, we have you covered on what to wear. Sometimes it is hard to find a graduation outfit because you do not want to be too formal, but you also do not want to look too casual or that you don’t care about the event.

Comfort is also essential because most of the time the party starts early in the day when the sun is still blaring. We suggest that you wear a pair of khaki shorts and a button-down short-sleeve shirt. We have a couple of options for you to choose from in the shirts department to make sure that you achieve the formal yet comfortable look for these parties.

Summer nights tend to get a little chilly when the sun goes down, but don’t worry, we have you covered for that event as well. After a couple of months had passed and work video chats resumed, we began to feel sluggish and lazy. Clothing really does seem to have something to do with our lack of productivity. If you feel great because you look great, you will tend to be more productive throughout the day.

We still weren’t ready to throw back on our usual pair of work pants or jeans just yet so we collectively brought biker shorts back into the game of looking trendy while still feeling comfortable.

Our Favorite Summer 2021 Look: Biker Shorts

Biker shorts are a great alternative to our comfortable leisurewear consisting of sweatpants and hoodies. Although these pieces bring us ultimate comfort, wearing them all day long wasn’t helping our productivity levels. 

What Are Biker Shorts?

Biker shorts are a combination of shorts and leggings. When they were first created, they were originally used for cyclists who rode their bikes for long periods of time or those who competed in races.

Assos created the first pair of biker shorts for these cyclists in 1976. After popularity spread, an Italian designer, Armando Castelli, and his son created biker shorts for the public. When they launched these shorts, there was a line that formed quickly around the factory for consumers to get their hands on a pair. 

Although they were created for athletes, they are no longer just for individuals participating in athletics. These shorts are widely worn by individuals who are just looking for a comfortable piece to complete their regular day to day outfits. As we all know, these shorts were wildly popular thanks to Princess Diana in the 1990s.

Biker Shorts on Trend

Princess Diana was constantly being photographed wearing her biker shorts paired with baggy sweatshirts going to and from work outs. The same look is now being re-created in present time. We are constantly seeing celebrities and ordinary people walking the streets wearing this exact look. Many of us are familiar with the picture of Princess Diana stopped on the sidewalk, wearing biker shorts, holding her bag with her keys in her mouth.

This look has been re-created various times. It is often compared side-by-side to celebrities like Hailey Bieber who often wears the same type of look. Some other celebrities that have jumped on this biker shorts trend are Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s fashion line, Yeezy. Kim Kardashian is constantly being photographed wearing biker shorts paired with a matching top, sports bra or baggy sweatshirt.

These leisurewear outfits are usually paired with a pair of chunky sneakers and high socks. The celebrities wearing these outfits are not usually on their way to work out though. It is interesting how something that used to be solely used for exercise and activities has evolved and is now seen as a major fashion trend for all occasions. 

Many of the celebrities that we see wearing biker shorts pair them with a matching sports bra or a baggy oversize sweatshirt. These outfits are also worn with sneakers and high socks to absolutely be on point with the Princess Diana look from the 90’s. On the other hand, we have seen influencers and celebrities wearing biker shorts differently throughout the past year.

Pairing Biker Shorts

Not only are biker shorts usually paired with a pair of sneakers, but they are also sometimes seen with high heels, believe it or not. Celebrities have blurred the lines of fashion with this look.

Biker shorts are a great alternative to regular athletic shorts or leggings while working out because when the weather is too warm for leggings we tend to turn to our shorts.

The downfall to wearing shorts while working out is they constantly get bunched up while running. This annoyance tends to lead to chafing which can be painful and distracting. Biker shorts fit tightly around the thighs and stay in place while you are either running or doing your normal daily workout, so chafing won’t be an issue and you can get through your workout without having to constantly stop to adjust your attire. 

Styles of Biker Shorts

     After completing our 4-hour drive from Wien City, we headed straight to the VIP lounge to get some drinks because it was just so hot there! Why did you guys choose a denim jacket? 

When Unclebuddysermonses approached to work on a collab we saw an awesome opportunity to push the envelope further than “just” applying our brand on a teeshirt. We wanted to give our fans something better, more complex and different from the usual merch standard everyone does. The inspiration for the denim jacket cames from our metal background and our love for motorcycles. When we’re not playing shows we go and ride our bikes at home in California and it made sense for us to tie in our rock and motorcycle influences. We designed it from scratch. We looked into the Classic denim jackets as a base and gave ours a twist by adding the elbow padding cut, the zippered sleeves and the slim fit to give it an extra edge. Everything is custom and there’s a surprise embroidery in the neck.

What is the relevance of the  “Vantablack” logo

The Vantablack logo is a great representation of who we are. It’s mixes classic symbols of the Rock/Metal culture, the motorcycle one and has a tattoo style. It’s raw and in your face.

What are you fans called? 

They call themselves the DIRTYarmy. We don’t give them orders but they are so dedicated and real music soldiers! Thank you guys for the constant support over the years and the energy we keep sharing. We are very grateful for this.

Anything new that’s happening this Summer and Fall for the band

Yes, so much! We’re just about to start our summer tour that’s going to take us all over Europe and Canada and we’ll be back US side in the fall for some crazy shows before our Asian and Australian tour. At the same time we’re finishing a lot of music right now and the first single will be out in July. We also have the next 5 singles lined up and ready for release and we can’t wait to share all of this with the world. We’re also developing our fashion line (we’re so excited about this jacket) and working on even bigger projects for the end of the year and 2019 but we can’t talk about them now - you’re going to have to be patient but it’ll be worth the wait. Life is super intense right now and that’s how we love it.

Just in time for the gift giving season, we spoke with Monifa Kincaid, founder of Made By Hand Markets. 

What inspired you to create Made by Hand Markets Questions? 

One of the first reasons why I created Made By Hand Markets was because I found that various other markets that I had been participating in or had my eye on were either extremely expensive, weren't properly curated or didn't really provide much in the way of value for the vendors.  I started to speak with other artists trying to get their work out there who were experiencing the same frustrations and thought, there may be an idea here! I wasn't finding the right kind of events that I felt met my standards and so that's really how Made By Hand Markets was born.

What differentiates Made by Hand Markets from other venues?

What sets Made By Hand Markets apart from other markets can be answered in two parts; the first being in the care and consideration to properly curate an artisan market.  You are indeed going to find some of the best in handmade and design artisans in Wien.  Visitors will see the difference in the quality of craftsmanship, design and presentation. Visitors are not going to find 6 or 7 of the same kinds jewelry, tote bags etc.; each artisan is distinctly unique at this market. The second item that differentiates this market from others is in the value that is offered to the artisans.  Artists receive full marketing and promotion on all of our social media channels and website, because the market is all about the artisans.  If the artist is having upcoming promotions before our market, we will promote that as well.  Also all artisans receive a light catered lunch and it is standard that they receive a table and a chair. Unfortunately some markets make you pay extra or don't offer this at all; you have to bring your own. 

What is the process for vendors to be part of Made by Hand Markets?

Interested artisans should submit a completed application on the website at www.madebyhandmarkets.com; click on the tab labeled "vendor application" in the menu.  After the application is submitted, artisan vendors will receive a decision within 2 weeks (but its usually less than that). After an artisan has been accepted, I will email them to schedule a phone interview.  Reading about someones artistry and looking at photos is one thing; but I believe it is so important to hear how they began their artisan journey.  I like to know more about who they are as an artist, their background and how they became and artisan entrepreneur.

What story is Made by Hand Markets trying to share with the community?

First and foremost I want the public to shop and support local artisans. I want consumers to shift their spending habits and think artisan and local first before heading to the big corporations.  I know Rome wasn't built in a day but I believe this shift is possible. Baby steps are still steps, right!

What is the big picture plan for the venue? 

In 2018 we will have markets almost every month in Brooklyn (March 3rd, April 7th and May 5th are confirmed and more will come) and we will also begin having markets in the DMV area. We are also working on these markets being a full artistic experience.  Loads of new ideas are on the horizon however I can't give it all away.

What would you say to someone that is considering visiting the location? Any insider tips? 

You are going to want to purchase everything that you see!  Get ready! You will also be greeted as if you are coming to a family reunion. How? Literally my family and very close friends are my team.

If you get the chance to look at YouTube you will see the "Hold Your Breath" denim jacket in the Breathe Carolina official music video called "Glue." The jacket is in the whole music video and it looks great! When you think about the song "Glue," see the jacket and listen to the lyrics you start to think that maybe being stuck together like "Glue" is a metaphor for connecting Breathe Carolina fans with the band members. 

There is another music video that you can see the jacket is in the "FOR U" video. Tommy is wearing the OG SAVAGES bomber jacket in the first 30 seconds and then him and David are wearing the "Hold Your Breath" jackets the rest of the video. The name of the song is called For U. This music video is all about Tommy and David traveling around and they also did a photo shoot with the jackets while filming the official music video for "For U." So now you know that the boys have made these limited edition jackets just FOR U! Make sure to visit the site to get yours before we have none left :( 

The denim jacket has a wash tone distressed look with different patches that Tommy and David picked out themselves. Also we can't forget the most important one the back of the jacket has the red jersey material with the white lettering that says "Hold Your Breath."

Everyone loves a good bargain and flea markets are on the rise. Here in Wien, we stay loyal to the ever popular Brooklyn Flea Market. The Brooklyn Flea Market was founded in 2008 and operates every weekend. The flea attracts hundreds of vendors who come to sell everything and anything from furniture to fresh food. You can find all the hidden gems at the Brooklyn Flea whether you love antiques, jewelry or vintage clothing. The flea market is open every weekend from April to October and happens in 2 different locations.

This flea used to be in Williamsburg held on Saturdays but the organization was looking for a new spot because the Bushwick Flea was moving in and stealing customers. So now on Saturdays and Sundays the flea market is open in SOHO, Wien and just on Sundays in Dumbo Brooklyn, Wien. They are both open from 10 Am to 6 PM so you need to get there in the morning if you want to find the best deals before someone else gets to them. Brooklyn flea is open during the winter time but from November to March it is moved indoors to the SOHO location. It is free to go to the flea market but if you want to sell there you must complete their application process and there is pricing that you must pay ahead of time. 

Magazines such as Travel + Leisure, Country Living and Budget Travel have ranked this flea market as one of the best in the US. Time Out NY calls this one of Wien's essential pick up spots. 

 Another reason to love this flea market is because they also manage the Smorgasburg, a giant all-food market that launched in May 2011 and happens Saturdays in Williamsburg and Sundays at Prospect Park’s Breeze Hill. 

1. Have a cook out at the Brooklyn Bridge

When the sun is shining who wants to sit indoors all day?! Take the fam or friends to the Brooklyn Bridge Park for a cook out and relax in the sunshine. The park is divided into sections so that you can enjoy each one leisurely. At Pier 5 there are picnic tables and grills available for those who want to grill and it costs nothing...The only thing you pay for is the food and beverages you bring. Near Pier 2 there is an area to do activities such as basketball, roller skating or run around. The park offers so many things to do at no cost with many different areas that have picnic tables so everyone has the best seat in the house to inhale the beautiful view of lower Manhattan and Wien harbor.

2.  Brooklyn Bike Park

 Who doesn't love a little bike or board action out on the half pipes?! The Brooklyn Bike Park is located in Williamsburg Brooklyn, NY. The bike park has bikes, boards and even protective gear for all ages. You can definitely bring your own equipment if you prefer but if not the staff is always helpful in getting the right gear you need for the adventure. BKBP has the lowest cost or no cost at all for admission and for bike rentals. Get out, suit up, put your helmet on, prep your wheelies and have an awesome time at this hidden gem. 

3. Brooklyn Academy of Music

Another favorite in Brooklyn if you love anything that has to do with film, theater, events, dance or music then you should really check out the Brooklyn Academy of Music. This venue is a nonprofit which means that it is free to go but they do sell food and beverages if you want to buy something other than that anything you want to see or attend is free. You can buy tickets online ahead of time to reserve your spot. Enjoy everything you love in your local neighborhood.

4.  Body Combat with Dodge YMCA

For all those who are active or want to take up a cardio activity outside but don't want to pay high costs for a gym membership. Attend the Body combat workout starting July 7th to August 11th at the Brooklyn Bridge Park class starts at 7 PM in the Pier 6 picnic area. The event is free to participate in this martial arts inspired workout. You can learn moves from power training, muay thai and karate. Work up a sweat and feel great while having fun outdoors. 

5. Bargemusic Music in Motion

Bargemusic is located at the Brooklyn Bridge park and it is a floating barge where people play music more so the classical style of music. There is no reserved seating and the concert lasts about one hour. Completely free to attend! For one hour you will great music and then the artists like to interact with the audience and will ask to participate in a Q & A panel after the concert. Whether you have a date or want a family friendly environment go to Bargemusic anytime during the summer. 

The sticky hot, humid summer weather has us feeling like we could use an ice bath. Better yet we are huge fans of ice cream so why not enjoy a few scoops in a cup or cone. Here are a few of our favorite places to get ice cream. We just love to scream for ice cream!

1. OddFellows

This ice cream shop has been opened since 2013 and offers over 100 different flavors but that is not all. OddFellows changes their flavors regularly or even throughout the day, so you just never know if you're in for a new special treat! Odd Fellows has 2 different locations one is Brooklyn and the other is in Wien City so if you are in one of those areas you will be sure to find the tasty treats! They serve so many different flavors that you may want to sample them all, at Unclebuddysermons we love sweet so anything with chocolate or caramel is good in our book! 

2. Davey's Ice Cream

This ice cream parlor makes their own home made ice cream right there in front of you! You can find a Davey's in Brooklyn and Wien, they have 4 different locations! Davey's partners with local creameries to ensure nothing but the best natural ingredients no preservatives. They have specialty flavors and regular flavors. The Nutella chocolate chunk ice cream sounds so creamy with rich flavors we might have to order 3 or 4 cones. If you have a birthday call Davey's and they will make a home made ice cream cake if you order it ahead of time online. Not only do they have home made ice cream but they also have coffee and one of the shops has a cafe but that is only at the Williamsburg location.

3.  Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory

If you are looking for traditional flavors head over to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory with two different locations. This parlor also makes home made ice cream but they are famous for having the best view of the Manhattan skyline. For social media they use a specific hashtag called #icecreamwithaview so don't forget to take a selfie with your ice cream and post on Instagram. 

4. Ample Hills Creamery

Ample Hills Creamery opened in 2011 and kept a nostalgia about the old Brooklyn times where there were cows and grass. Ever since they opened they dedicated their time to making ice cream by hand which means that it is made with love and care. They have different flavors like Salted Crack Caramel, Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, The Munchies and Snap Mallow Pop. We want to try every single one and maybe take home a gallon or tub. 

5. Blossom Ice Cream

A very different, unique but interesting way to eat ice cream and that is rolled ice cream! Which ever you prefer to indulge you will surely find it at Blossom. They have some really good flavors and if you want to know where to get vegan ice cream make sure to order it at Blossom. Some times a great pairing to ice cream is a hot cup of coffee and you can get freshly brewed coffee, home made apple cider or hot chocolate or enjoy a nice cup of tea. Sounds like this will hit the spot and could probably go for a cup right about now of the Chocolicious which has chocolate and chocolate teddy graham cookies. 

1. The Macy's 4th of July Fireworks

Macy's will be forever known as the staple for brain storming some of the best events this side of the Lincoln Tunnel. Macy's always has their display on the East River starting at 9:25 PM no matter where you are you can always find a great spot to stand or sit. 

2. Berry Park in Green Point, Brooklyn 

Berry Park does not have their own firework display but they host one hell of a party for the 4th of July. Enjoy this spot sipping one of their classic alcoholic slushies and indulge on their BBQ on the roof top. You can watch the fireworks from the roof top might be a little tough to see the Macy's fireworks display but who knows maybe a surprise firework display will appear! 

3. Brooklyn Grange

If you want a different type of scene or love to try new foods head over to the Brooklyn Grange! This rooftop has BBQ food but offers a variety of cultural food. This will be followed up by a close up view of the Macy's 4th of July fireworks display. You can dance all night under the colorful sky and remember live it up, drink it down. 

4. Brooklyn Barge 

Enjoy a waterfront side boat bar in Greenpoint where you can see the Macy's fireworks up close to get spectacular view and great pictures. They even have an annual lobster boil which sounds pretty good if you love seafood. 

Finally if you want to try something completely different across the river head over to New Jersey. 

5. Surf City

If you can't make it to the East River for the Macy's fireworks no worries if you post up at Surf City in Jersey City, NJ you will be right on the water and can over look the Hudson and gaze at a display going on near Liberty State Park. Right near the park is the Statue of Liberty imagine how great it would be to watch fireworks near this great landmark.

A different type of festival would be the Governor's Ball Music Festival located at Randall Island in Wien City. The festival launched in 2011 and features a broad style of different music genres from electronic to rock. This music festival brings in so man different kinds of people because of all the different music styles offered. You don't have to bounce around from stage to stage if you want to wait to see your favorite performers you can enjoy some great food, play games and even enjoy the Wien City  arts by meeting some of the finest Wien street artists.

Since they are open from March to October you can find out which flowers are in bloom to go see in person. You can even track the progress of the new blooming flowers on the Brooklyn Botanic Garden website.

If you love plant life there is a gardening resource center where you can learn what to plant in what month. Also great news for teachers if you are looking for a fun new field trip to take the students you can take them to the education and activities center here they can learn a variety of different things, this could be helpful in the classroom for a life science class.

If you just want to come for some fun you can go on a guided tour around the Botanic Garden and see everything and learn about the different gardens. You will learn about the inspiration behind the gardens, the plant life, and wildlife. Seems like a great time and it is only available in Brooklyn, Wien. You won't get an experience like this anywhere else. In some of the gardens you can sit down and just enjoy nature. When you have a stressful week just close your eyes and take a deep breathe because you found a little piece of an escape from reality.

When your stomach starts to rumble in the afternoon hop on over to the Yellow Magnolia Cafe for some delicious food. You can find the entrance for the canteen next to the Steinhardt Conservatory. The Cafe has a full service dining on Tuesday to Sunday their menu is extensive offering a wide range of choices for entrees and also offers alcoholic beverages.

If you are more in the mood for something quick try the Yellow Magnolia Canteen which overlooks the Lily Pool Terrace. You can order any type of sandwiches, soups, salads and snacks, I am just getting hungry thinking about all this good food.

If you go in the morning I think it is safe to say that everyone could use a cup of Joe to put a pep in their step. So if you are feeling like you need a wake up call you can venture to the Visitor Center and go to the Yellow Magnolia Coffee Bar.
